Alfa Romeo is a brand which is synonymous with luxury, with a reputation as a top Italian automaker. It was originally founded by a Frenchman living in Italy in 1910.
The name of the company is an abbreviation for Societa Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. Despite being founded by a Frenchman, an Italian with the last name Romeo took over the company in 1915. ALFA produced the first vehicle based on the designs of Giuseppe Merosi, who designed the first vehicle which came off the company's production line. Unfortunately, WWII had temporarily meant that the company produced aircraft engines due to lack of funds. Following the war, Alfa Romeo focused on producing racing vehicles. It was at this point that Alfa Romeo decided to focus on its post-war style, so the company launched its Montreal which had a V8 engine and was named after the exposition it was launched at in 1970. This was followed by an arrival in the Americas in 1987 with the company's 164. More recently, the company launched its 4C Coupe and 4C Spider to optimize the proportions and lines of the vehicle. The company continues to celebrate its tradition of superior craftsmanship and Italian design with its newer models.
